Romania Black sea Coast - Information About The Romanian Seaside of the Black Sea
![]() |
The Romanian Seaside (Litoral) of the Black Sea has a length of 245 km, from the north boundary with Ukraine to the south boundary with Bulgaria. Actually from the total size above only around 82 km are used in the tourism circuit.
Over the centuries, along the sea shore appeared two large and two little cities, and about 13 resorts, each with its own identity and colour.
The orientation towards the east ensures ten hours a day of sun brightness. The dominant winds blow in N-E direction, and the sea breeze cools the air during the summer. During the winter, the wind amplifies the cold sensation with a few degrees Celsius. |
The sea water has a reduced salinity and for not having deep water near the shore, the water easily warms in the summer.
In the months of July and August the sea water temperature is about 25-26 degrees Celsius, an ideal temperature for bathing.
The water, the air, the sun and the sand form together a unique healthy micro- and bio-climate for the human body, thus in this area many resorts that exploit these factors have evolved over the years.
In addition, in certain resorts like: Venus, Saturn, Mangalia, and Eforie Nord the tourists may find thermal springs and therapeutic mud. At the present time the Romania seaside masses together 43% from the whole accommodation capacity of the country. This should also tell you how popular the Black Sea coast in Romania is for Romanians!
The Romanian Black Sea Coast offers the tourists an impressive number of accommodation spaces, totalizing a 300,000 rooms in hotels, villas and bed & breakfasts places both tourist classified and not classified. In addition, in the last years many hotels have been built, the majority of them being organized in tourist complexes and offering complete services for an excellent vacation. From the old hotels, a large number have been restored and the accommodation conditions have been evidently improved. In the present, the Romania seaside offers accommodation in hotels, villas or pensions classified at two, three, four or five stars. The four and five stars hotels are numerous mostly in Mamaia Resort, but there also are few four and five stars hotels in the other resorts.
Mamaia Resort is the resort on the coast with a limited number of villas and bed & breakfasts, with the latter being mostly found mainly in the following resorts: Costinesti, Eforie Nord, Eforie Sud, Techirghiol, and Mamaia Sat.
Besides the hotels, in the resorts the tourists may also find restaurants and terraces, many with Romanian specific cuisine. For entertainment the tourists also have many options. For example, sport fields (football, tennis), bowling, Luna parks, fun fairs, clubs, discos, etc. In fact Coistinesti resort, the most popular resort in Romania boasts the biggest clubs in Romania, the parties being thrown in Costinesti being famous in the whole country. Many bands come in Costinesti to play live music all over summer. On the sports side aquatic and water sports can be also practiced. There are diving, windsurfing, and yachting clubs.
On the lakes the fishing passionate can enjoy this sport. If we take them separately, every resort has its specific things to offer. Mamaia Resort, for example, which at the present time is the pearl of the Romanian seaside has improved over the years its services regarding accommodation and meals, but also, the resort has extended the tourist offer by: opening a very appreciated aquatic park named Aqua Magic, by building The Cable Railway, by the opening of various clubs like: XXI, Bamboo, and LaMania Club, and by organizing different spectacular events like Formula 1 on water, The Challenger Tennis Tournament, or Aero GP. Eforie Nord Resort offers the possibility to have specific treatments in the Health Centers: the Ana Aslan Health SPA, but also has a private harbour for luxury yachts. Ana Yacht Club offers sea sails and every year is organized here The Black Sea Regatta. Neptun Resort with its wide forests and green spaces offers the tourists a treatment complex, and also one of the most known clubs on the coast Why Not Club. Saturn Resort has an aquatic park at Balada Hotel, and Mangalia Resort offers tourist attractions like: the famous ride horses and a racecourse known through out the country, The Callatis Fortress ruins, and the organizing of various festivals (Callatis Music Festival, The Young Actor Gala etc). A privileged place between the tourist areas on the coast is occupied by Constanta City, a very lively place that not only offers its tourist the sea and the beach but also the possibility of going shopping and visiting museums.
Constanta City is the second important town in the country, a place which can be visited in every season and a city you could easily fall in love with. The Romana poet Ovidius lived in Constanat in the Antiquity, writing his famous poems of lost love.
Over the last years important investments were made in the infrastructure of the Romanian tourism on the coast, and with every new development the services have constantly improved. Romania Black Sea coast is now number one tourist destination of the Romanian tourists who spend their holiday in Romania.
